A BRIEF HISTORY OF DODGE
The Dodge brothers — Horace Elgin and John Francis — were engineering entrepreneurs who went from opening a bike shop in 1897 to building engines for the likes of Oldsmobile and Ford in 1901. After supplying parts to other early automakers for more than a decade, they went all-in on the automobile by founding the Dodge Brothers Motor Company in 1913. The brand’s first car came the following year as the 1914 Dodge Model 30/35. Unfortunately, both Dodge brothers died in 1920, and the company ended up as part of Chrysler Corporation in 1928. The Dodge brand saw years of success under Chrysler, expanding into nearly all segments of the market with some of the industry’s top muscle cars, trucks, and family sedans. At one time, Dodge even sold the incredible Viper sports car. Nowadays, Dodge keeps that focus on enthusiasts alive with a smaller lineup that still includes some of the fastest cars in the world.
